Mark Palmer, writing in The Daily Telegraph, says Tom’s Place in Chelsea, London, is the perfect place to eat before of after the cinema or when refuelling during a marathon shopping binge. He loved the cod and fat stubby chip, and ordered a second bowl of mushy peas. A meal for two, including wine but not service, cost him £60. Palmer gave the place seven marks out of ten. The Independent’s John Walsh dined at Water House, the new restaurant in north London owned by James Grainger-Smith and Arthur Potts, who opened Acorn House in 2006 as “London’s first eco-restaurant”. The atmosphere was fine, the menu “different” and the food was all beautifully presented. But, says Walsh, it wasn’t exactly cooking.
