Molson Coors is investing a further £28m in its brewing technology as part of a wider investment of £75m, which is the highest capital investment in British brewing in several decades.
Prime Minister David Cameron toured the brewery at Burton to see the new state of the art bottling line which cost £21m.
The Molson Coors’ Burton Brewery brews 1.2bn pints a year using the newly invested in brewing technology that will ensure high quality standards across its brands including Carling, Coors Light and Cobra.
Cameron said: “Giving businesses the confidence to invest is a key part of our long term economic plan. Molson Coors’ commitment to spend £28 million on this innovative brewing technology demonstrates that this plan is working – encouraging business investment and giving hard-working people economic security for the future.”
The next phase of investment will focus on the workforce and Molson Coors redevelopment programme. This has so far included new buildings and technology and an energy centre to achieve the brewer’s target of reducing energy use by 25% and cut 20% of its greenhouse gas use by 2020.
