Jarrow Brewery in South Tyneside has appointed Tim Cottier as chairman of the board to expand the brewery and acquire local craft producers.

Cottier, whose background is in corporate finance, will join CEO and founder Jess McConnell in the next stage of the brewery’s development.

Cottier said:“I am excited to see how far we can take this business over the coming years, and we are already in advanced acquisition discussions with several smaller craft breweries in the North as well as securing additional distribution channels for our ales.”

His role will be to lead the strategy for expansion and acquisitions across the north to expand distribution channels.

McConnell said: “We have grown into one of the North’s leading real ale breweries and, in order to take a serious step up in scale, we realised we needed to strengthen our board and take a strategic look at acquisition and diversification in order to reach the next stage in our development,” said Jess McConnell.

Jarrow Brewery was established by McConnell 10 years ago, it has now moved/grown and produces 12,000 barrels of cask and keg ales per annum for distribution throughout the North East, Yorkshire, Cumbria and Lincolnshire.

Its real ales include the award-winning Rivet Catcher and McConnells Irish Stout.

The company recently moved to a £500,000 state-of-the-art brewing facility on Bede Industrial Estate in Jarrow.
