AB InBev is to launch a Europe-wide rollout of Goose Island brewpubs with an opening in Balham next month, MCA understands.

The group has taken on the Be At One site in Ramsden Road to open the Goose Island Vintage Ale House Vintage Ale House, showcasing products from the iconic Chicago-based craft brewer, which was acquired by AB InBev in 2011.

A second site in London is thought to have already been identified to open in 2017, as well as a location in Belgium.

MCA understands the project is being headed up by Toby Cowan, former operations manager at Young’s, in his role as head of brand experience, Europe.

The style of operation is described as “brewpub style”, reflecting the brewery’s beginnings in Chicago in the 1980s.

There will also be a smoke house-inspired food menu, a small wine menu and a bespoke spirit and mineral range.

While Goose Island Brewery was sold to AB InBev in 2011, its brewpub in Clybourn remained separate to the deal. However, the Budweiser producer acquired the site in February of this year.

AB InBev, which became the world’s largest brewer with the acquisition of SABMiller this year, has been keen to boost its craft beer credentials. It acquired Camden Town Brewery at the end of last year but is concentrating on the launch of a new brewery for the brand before looking at further pub rollout in the UK.
