Jay Rayner finds Jamie Oliver’s new Italian eaterie in Oxford is a good new addition to the high street. He says the pasta at Jamie’s Italian delivered and loved the “crunchy, deep-fried polenta dressed with fresh, salty Parmesan”. Tierra Brindisa in London W1 is awarded 15 out of 20 by The Independent on Sunday’s Terry Durack who admires the simple platters of jamon, bowls of almonds and unadorned cheeseboards. He also praises a cazuela of arroz Caldoso – a wet, Levantine rice stew loaded down with chunks of red mullet, clams, mussels and langoustines. AA Gill dines at Angela Hartnett’s new Murano restaurant in central London and declares the pressed rabbit terrine with a merlot vinaigrette as the “best bunny pate I’ve ever had”. He also loves the apricot soufflé and awards the meal four stars. Inamo in London’s Wardour Street is a real concept restaurant, says Zoe Williams, with overhead projectors which display your choice of tablecloth. She isn’t convinced about the food but says the black cod was the best she’s ever tasted while the crème brulee was outstanding. However, nothing in the meal had enough salt.
