Wahaca, the Mexican street food brand co-founded by Thomasina Miers and Mark Selby, has confirmed that it has secured a new site at 1-3 Widegate Street and 112-114 Middlesex Street for an opening later this summer.

As flagged up by M&C Report in January, the 4,200sq ft site, which will become the group’s fourteenth in the capital under its core brand, will be adjacent to Honest Burgers and set across two floors, with space for over 100 covers.

The restaurant will also benefit from duel frontage across both Widegate Street and Middlesex Street.

The company, which operates sites in Bluewater and Cardiff, has recently been strengthening its regional openings pipeline.

It has secured sites in Bristol, Manchester and Southampton for openings over the coming two years and is also believed to be in talks on a site in Watford.

Casey Philips acquisitions agent at Shelley Sandzer, which acted on the Widegate Street deal, said: “Opportunities in the City, specifically around Liverpool Street and Spitalfields are extremely rare. This deal, which involved combining two premises, subject to planning, demonstrates just how difficult it has become to find a good sized A3 opportunity in a prime City of London location. It is perhaps also testimony to the strength of the sector that a Landlord is prepared to go to such lengths and we are pleased to have delivered this for our client.”

The landlord in the deal was Strathclyde Pension Fund, represented by Savills.
