Turtle Bay, the Piper-backed Caribbean chain, has further strengthened its board, with the appointment of a new people director, MCA has learnt.

The 32-strong group, which is set to open in Norwich and Exeter this month, has appointed Caroline Goddard, formerly HR director at Leidos, the international information technology and services company, to the new role.

MCA understands that the company, which is working on securing sites in Sheffield and Winchester, is also currently recruiting for a managing director to further lead its growth and an eventual sales process.

Piper acquired a stake in the then four-strong business back in June 2013, again backing Las Iguanas co-founder Ajith Jaya-Wickrema, who founded Turtle Bay in 2010.

The company, which last year secured additional funding from Santander to support its plans for 2016 and beyond, has so far doubled up in Bristol, Liverpool and Manchester in terms of openings. It is thought to be currently looking at opportunities to do the same in Birmingham.

The business plans to add 12-14 sites to its estate in 2016.

At the turn of the year, the company appointed Jon Temple, formerly of Pret A Manger as it new finance director.
