Nabil Subuh has stepped down as chief executive of Square Pie after just a year of leading the gourmet pie shop chain, M&C understands.

The appointment of the former Welcome Break commercial director, who has also worked at Pret A Manger, Whitbread and Coffee Republic, last January was made to allow founder and chairman Martin Dewey to step back to concentrate on the company’s burgeoning retail operation.

It is thought that Dewey has again taken over day-to-day running of the six-strong group.

Last year, the company completed a fundraising round raising £681,500 through online crowdfunding platform Crowdcube.

Square Pie said it would use the funds to ramp up restaurant openings with four planned this year and to increase its presence in supermarkets and through wholesale
