Square Pie, the chain of gourmet pie shops led by Martin Dewey, plans to operate 20 sites within the next four years after securing new funding.

The group, which will open its fifth site this week (1 August) on the former Banger Bros site in Westfield Stratford, has secured the new funding through the Enterprise Investment Scheme and existing investors.

Separately, M&C Report understands that Steve Wilkins, founder of Lewis & Clarke, recently stepped down as chairman of the business, but continues to advise the group on a consultancy basis.

The new shop will showcase the chain’s new branding and designs, with a “classic yet modern British feel”.

Square Pie will launch Canapies – mini two-bite pies priced from £1.50 – for those looking for a snack, lighter lunch option, or keen to sample a few different flavours, at the new site.

The new menu also features lighter options such as British salads, sweet potato mash and 50% less fat ‘Naked’ Pies and will allow customers to choose any combination of hot and cold sides (over 6,000 variations) giving them the option to eat as little or as much as they like, to suit appetite or budget.

Last month, they served over six tonnes of freshly mashed potato and pies to revellers at Glastonbury festival.

Dewey said: After a marvellous start to the summer at Glastonbury we can wholeheartedly say that the British still love pies, even when temperatures match the South of France. We are excited to launch at Westfield Stratford and believe that Canapies will prove a real hit, they’re lovely as a lighter snack or meal and great at home to share with friends and family. Be careful though, they’re highly addictive!”
