San Carlo, the family-run Italian restaurant chain, is understood to be looking at opening its first overseas restaurant under its eponymous brand in Thailand before the end of the year.

The group already operates four international sites under its high-end Signor Sassi format, and is believed to be close to securing a site in Sukhumvit, Bangkok for its premium casual dining brand.

It currently operates a Signor Sassi at the Sathorn Hotel in the city.

Last month, the parent company of San Carlo reported a 10.9% increase in turnover to £30.1m for the year to 30 September 2012 and said it expected to see its growth continue throughout this year.

The 12-strong group, which is led by the Distefano family, saw pre-tax profit climb from £1.02m to £1.75m during the year in which it opened two new restaurants in Piccadilly and Birmingham. Operating profit stood at £1.8m up from £1.07m the previous year.
