McDonald's is looking at putting Ronald McDonald out to pasture despite the fact the clown is second in recognition only to Santa Claus, according to the company.

Image makers are worried the market has moved on and the clown is not sophisticated enough for today's children. The burger chain has canvassed senior advertising executives on the issue.

Ronald will still be pulled out for children's parties but it looks likely his days in advertising campaigns are numbered.
