Burger King is set to re-enter the Japanese market, after withdrawing from the country five years ago. The burger chain is planning to open 100 fast-food restaurants in Japan over the next five years in partnership with Lotte and Revamp, two Japanese companies that will operate the outlets. The group withdrew from the country in 2001 following weak sales, compounded by intense competition from McDonald's. Burger King has more than 11,000 sites around the world and opened 191 new outlets across the Middle East, Asia and Latin America in 2006.
