Pizza Express, the c400-strong chain, has announced a number of additions to its new menu, including the addition of calzone, after experimenting with ways to include the traditional dish. A new side dish made from polenta, which is sourced from the Vallesi family in Pulgia, southern Italy, has also been developed - Polenta Chips flavoured with rosemary - finished with grana padano and served with a honey and mustard dressing. Another new addition is Polpette Piccante, a pasta dish made from meatballs covered in spicy Bolognese sauce flavoured with red chillies, roquito peppers, gruyere and parmesan sauce and mozzarella. It is finished with fresh rocket, basil and shaved grana padano. PizzaExpress is also adding a new item to its wine menu - a Sauvignon Blanc, chosen by master of wine, Adrian Garforth, which has been specifically blended for Pizza Express by the award winning Yealands wine estate in the Marlborough region of New Zealand. Emma Woods, marketing director at Pizza Express, said: “Bringing fresh innovation to our menu is hugely important to Pizza Express, especially in the run up to the festive period. We’ve been working on ways of introducing Calzone to our restaurants for some time so we’re particularly excited by its arrival. Our outstanding Calzone is a hearty pizza and a dish we’re very proud of.”
