Richard Holmes, the co-founder of Cambridge-based Pint Shop, has told M&C Report he has put an offer in for a site in London.

If the bid is successful it would be the second site for the fledgling British meat and beer concept.

Holmes, who was formerly ops manager at Leon, also told M&C Report about various initiatives to keep the existing business fresh, including a bacon sandwich beer.

On his growth plans, Holmes said: “We are ready for a second location. We have an offer in on a site in London but there is a lot of competition.

“London is a location that we would feel comfortable with. I know it reasonably well from my days with Leon and I think we could do well there.”

Holmes said he had a clear idea of which locations would work for Pint Shop, saying: “We want to be close to retail but not on a high street. I’d describe our perfect location as a ‘cultural quarter’.”

Other target locations include Oxford, Bath, Bristol and Brighton.

He said he was keen to add new elements to the Pint Shop offer and to that end the drinks range had been extended to include more long serve options and lighter alternatives to its traditional bar snacks of scotch eggs and sausage rolls. He said on its core food offer, he wanted to focus on spit roast meat and fish.

New initiatives include a collaboration with Three Blind Mice Brewery to create a beer with sourdough culture and including bacon bits.

There are also plans for evenings hosted by local suppliers and breweries, Holmes said.
