A number of pub and restaurant groups have been included in a list of 1,000 companies that inspire Britain.

The list, from the Daily Telegraph in conjunction with HSBC and Growth Intelligence, includes the likes of BrewDog, Cote, Amber Taverns, Wear Inns, Blanc Brasseries, Loungers, Ed’s Easy Diner, Drake & Morgan, Patisserie Holdings, Oakman, Peyton & Bryne and Busaba Eathai.

Meanwhile, BrewDog co-founders James Watt and Martin Dickie are named among the list of chief executives under 40 in the list.

The report says: “James Watt and Martin Dickie, both 31, used to brew American-style beers in their garage in Aberdeen on the weekends until they decided to turn their hobby into a business.

“Fuelled by quirky marketing and great beer, BrewDog has averaged 160 per cent growth annually during the past five years. To fund expansion, BrewDog has pioneered its own form of crowdfunding, an online scheme called Equity for Punks for people who want to invest in the business
