Itsu, the chain founded by Julian Metcalfe and led by Gerard Loughran, is to invest £1m in its first regional opening in Oxford.

The 42-strong group will open the 104-cover site on 27 September. It will be spread over two floors and include eat-in and takeaway. Regional expansion is part of its five-year plan, which also includes opening in two overseas territories, one of which is set to be the US in the next four years.

Itsu, which secured a £14m finance deal through HSBC earlier this summer, expects to open 12 new outlets a year.

Loughran told the Oxford Times: “Oxford was our first choice when thinking about a location outside London and will be an ambitious, exciting step. It’s a hotspot for students and professionals alike.”

The group, which also operates two larger restaurants in the capital, opened the 40th site under its smaller format last month near Euston Square.

The company, that will see it look to add over 20 new sites to its current 41-strong estate in London

The group is predicting annual turnover of £55m by the end of 2013.
