Five Guys, the better burger brand, will open five more sites before the end of the year, as it targets strengthening its 2019 pipeline.

The c80-strong group has openings lined up in Chester (the former YO! Sushi site); Chelmsford; Canterbury (the ex-Friendly Phil’s); Rushden Lakes and Maidstone.

The latter site will become the group’s smallest footprint site and test on whether the model will work in similar sized towns.

The group will open 11 sites in total this year, down on its target of 20 at the start of the year. It is thought that the company has held off on a number of locations in anticipation that site prices will further fall going into 2019.

The company recently opened in part of the Hollywood Bowl site in Gunwharf Quays, in Canary Wharf, on London’s King’s Road and University Square, Manchester.

MCA understands that average payback for a Five Guys site is approximately three and a half years.
