Five Guys, the better burger brand, is in talks to open a site in London’s Leicester Square, close to where rival Shake Shack has recently launched its latest outlet in the UK, MCA understands.

The 59-strong Five Guys is believed to be in talks to take a new unit on the front of the Trocadero. MCA understands that Shake Shack also ran the rule over the site before taking the nearby KFC unit on Coventry Street.

Last month, MCA reported that Five Guys jad lined up two further flagship sites in south west London.

The group, which recently opened in Exeter, will open on the ex-Sopranos site in Kensington High Street, whilst it is also set to open on the Boujis site in South Kensington subject to planning approval.

The company, which recently opened in Tottenham Court Road, opened a flagship 350-cover site in France on the Champs-Elysées earlier this month.

The group, which made its debut in France earlier this year in Bercy Village, Paris, plans to open 40 restaurants in France by the end of 2019, including 15 by the end of 2017.

The next openings are planned at Disney Village in Marne-la-Vallée and Gare du Nord in Paris.

Earlier this year, it made its debut in Spain, in Madrid, as it believed to be in advanced talks on further sites in the country.

It is also set to look at opportunities in Germany.

The company recently appointed a new UK head of operations Kaiss Elmadi, who previously operation director for Burger King in Germany and a UK operations managers for Yum! Brands.
