Din Tai Fung, the Taiwanese restaurant concept, is in advanced talks to make its European debut in London’s Covent Garden, MCA has learnt.

The concept, which has 21 sites in Singapore, plus restaurants in the US, Australia and Thailand, is understood to be in talks to take the Henry’s Café Bar in Henrietta Street. The leasehold of the site was placed on the market for the first time in 20 years at the start of this year through Savills.

Breadtalk Group, the operator of the concept, which is famous for its signature xiaolongbao, is understood to be looking to launch Din Tai Fung in the UK as part a joint venture.

Reports in the Far East last year suggested the restaurants in the UK would be run by a joint venture between BreadTalk, Din Tai Fung franchise owner Fairy Rise Development, Din Tai Fung Taiwan, a British partner and a Taiwanese individual. BreadTalk will be the major shareholder.

The sale of the Covent Garden site is on behalf of David Chubb and Michael Jervis, the joint administrators of Tattershall Castle Group.

The property extends to more than 8,500sq ft over ground-floor and basement levels. It is held on a Landlord & Tenant Act protected lease and is being sold without the Henry’s trading name.
