Managed operator Town and City Pub Company is claiming an industry first by introducing a “breakfast pie” to its spring/summer menu at its 50 unbranded pubs. The company said the bacon and sausage pie, which is encased in golden pastry and topped with a fried egg, was devised after a “huge surge in demand for breakfast-themed dishes on the menu”. An all-day breakfast ciabatta, which includes eggs, bacon, sausage and baked beans, has also been added to the menu, along with T&C’s “Champion Pie”, created by the team at the Grapes in Formby - the pie includes ham, brie, cheddar, red onion, garlic, thyme and pepper. Four new dishes have been added to the curry club, including prawn makhini and three extra side dishes. New “light bites” have also been added after feedback highlighted the continuing rise in snacking and ‘grazing’ in pubs. The new snacks include breaded mushrooms with mayonnaise, breaded butterfly king prawns with sweet chilli dip and BBQ chicken wings available in volumes of 10, 20 and even 50. Value deals on offer include all day breakfast and a drink from £5.45, two meals for £6.95, sandwich, wrap, ciabatta or jacket and a drink from £5.25 and 2-for-1 on all desserts. Simon Lucas, head of marketing at Town and City, said: “Our customers love our all day breakfast choices so we thought why not combine the classic English breakfast with the pub favourite, the pie. This new menu is all about extending our superb deals, all day every day, to include more dishes.” Meanwhile, the company has revealed details of its royal wedding food and drink promotions at Slug & Lettuce. These include a full English breakfast, dubbed Breakfast Fit for a King, for £4.95 on the wedding day (Friday 29 April), plus bottles of Cava for £14.95. A deal called “Cuppa Tea your Majesty?” will see traditional afternoon tea and scone served every day from 22 April until 2 May in 25 bars for £3.45, or for £5.95 with a glass of Cava. Town & City said it also expects more than 500 parties over the 10 day period that combines the wedding, St George’s Day and Easter.
