RB & AH, the six-strong food-led Surrey pub group run by former Blubecker’s chief Richard Brown, has changed its name to Pearmain Pubs.

The move marks a shift towards a higher corporate profile for the company, which Brown hopes will help attract talent.

“But each pub will continue to have its own identity, and we won’t be linking up the websites or anything. We see it as helping us with recruitment. We already have a strong HQ team in place, but we’re always looking to improve, like a Premier League football team.”

The winter saw Pearmain perform ahead of expectations, he added, and the plan is to add new site by the end of 2014.

As for the new name, “It’s a type of apple,” Brown explained. “I’ll come up with a story about why we chose it oneday, but it struck us as an interesting word.”
