Marston’s is moving drinks prices up by 7-8% to combat rising cost pressures, CEO Andrew Andrea told the Evening Standard.

Premium pint prices are hovering between £7-8 in London, but the pub operator is still offering £3 pints in other parts of the country, Andrea said.

In an update yesterday (27 July), Marston’s reported like-for-like sales down 2% in the 42 weeks to 23 July, compared to the same period in 2019. The operator reported growing drinks sales but weakening food sales against the backdrop of recent heatwaves, while labour, utility, and food costs have soared as well.

“Premium pints are sitting at £7-8 in London but in Wales we’ve still got beers at £3 a pint,” Andrea told the Standard.

“We’ve moved drinks prices up by 7-8% — we want to keep that under review but we’re conscious people only have so much money in their pocket.”

However, Andrea spoke out against further price rises, saying a £10 pint in London was not on the horizon.

“Personally I can’t foresee that in our business any time soon…there’s a point at which someone will say, ‘is that value for money?’”
