Punch has re-structured its turnaround division, which has been renamed Mercury Pubs and is now headed by Paul Pavli, MCA understands.

The company is understood to have developed a new approach to the estate, which currently encompasses c300 pubs.

Crawford Scott, who has for the past three years been business development director, has been appointed regional operations director.

Pavli’s new appointment comes after an initial restructure following chief executive Duncan Garrood’s appointment last summer. At that point Pavli was appointed to the role of operations director for the South, whilst Giles Kendall took on the same responsibilities for the North.

Pavli had previously headed up Punch’s new business division. He joined Punch in 2005, having previously worked for JD Wetherspoon and Whitbread.

Over the past two years, the company has converted several sites from the turnaround division to its fledgling retail format Mighty Local.

The company also set up its Falcon division last year, which is based on operator agreements with its profit-based incentives
