London nightclub Ministry of Sound have penned an open letter to London mayor Boris Johnson, asking him to halt plans for a nearby housing development.

The dance venue, which has been open since 1991, will almost certainly close if plans for the housing development go ahead.

Under the city’s current planning proposal, a 41-story block of apartments will be constructed next to the nightclub—the second time such a proposal has occurred since 2011. Hearings on the plan will be held again on 19 November.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson previously assured the club’s owners’ Ministry of Sound was “safe on my watch”.

In the letter, Ministry of Sound claim they’ve found a solution to the problem, “one that allows both sides to live in harmony.”

“Ministry of Sound has been at the heart of London for quarter of a century,” it continues. “We’ve earned our right to stay here.”
