The Methodist Church has chosen the winners of its "11th Commandment" competition, which offered drinkers under 40 the chance to win a camera phone by responding to one of 250,000 beer mats distributed nationwide and thinking up their own commandment. More than 2,000 entries were received with the eventual winners whittled down to a list of five. "Thou shalt not worship false pop idols", "Thou shalt not kill in the name of any God", "Thou shalt not confuse text with love" and "Thou shalt not consume thine own bodyweight in fudge" came out on top, along with the oxymoronic "Thou shalt not be negative." "We were thrilled to receive so many commandments from people having ‘Moses moments’," said Simon Jenkins, one of the organisers. The Rev Jonathan Kerry, the Methodist Church’s worship secretary, said: "The response shows that people are definitely interested in talking about values and spiritual issues, even on a night out."
