Tom Maloney, operator of the Oxford Arms in London’s Camden, has secured his second site in the area after acquiring the legendary Hobgoblin pub on Kentish Town Road, for £1.15m from Enterprise Inns. The Hobgoblin, previously better known as The Dev from its days as The Devonshire Arms, is possibly the most famous alternative pub in the area since the 1980s when Irish rock band The Pogues drank in the pub. Paul Tallentyre, director of Davis Coffer Lyons’ Pubs Team, which acted on the deal, continued: “Since then it has attracted fame and drinkers from around the world so locals will be pleased to learn that Maloney will continue to trade the premises as The Hobgoblin for the foreseeable future. Freehold pubs in central London are still commanding some very profitable long-term returns in the market, and those in popular locations are being snapped up in off-market deals very quickly.”
