Greene King’s tenanted and leased division, Pub Partners, has won the Best Licensee Development Programme (L & T) prize at the National Innovation in Training Awards.

The accolade was presented at Café de Paris in London and was recognition for the Discovery programme which is dedicated to providing training support that adds value and makes a difference to licensees.

The programme offers a range of bespoke training solutions from apprenticeships to leadership training all tailored to suit individual licensees and the development needs of their teams and takes the form of workshops, online and in-pub support.

Recent innovations have included a multi-site operator course designed to consider the risk, as well as the opportunities, in taking on more than one pub, designed for use both by those considering another site as well as more experienced multiple operators.

The Management to Leadership programme is designed to develop leadership skills and helps licensees grow the capability of their team, while there is also an accessible apprenticeship scheme and guidance to marketing through social media.

Greene King Pub Partners has further developed its first 100 days programme to give new tenants all the essential information and tools they need to ensure an efficient implementation of their business plan.

Clive Chesser, Managing Director of Greene King Pub Partners, said: “This NITA award is a fantastic achievement and reflects the outstanding work put in by our training team for a number of years now.

“The support we offer our licensees is paramount from how we recruit them, to their first 100 days, through to how we develop and retain them as partners through the duration of their tenancy. In the past couple of years we have seen a 20% increase in license retention.

“We always aspire to be the preferred partners for the best operators and that means constantly evolving and adding to our training programme to meet the needs of licensees who want to maximise the potential of their business. Every pub is different so we prioritise being flexible with what we offer.

“At Greene King Pub Partners, our belief in the importance of delivering industry-leading training is absolute. It is central to what we do and an essential part of ensuring that right from the outset we are offering support that makes a difference to licensees.

“Licensees often report an increase in sales of more than 10% after undergoing our in-pub training support. It works for their staff, their customers and for them, all of which means it works for us, too.”
