Peter Furness-Smith, the joint managing director of family brewer and pub operator, McMullen’s, is to retire this summer after two decades with the group, MCA has learnt.

It is understood that Tom McMullen, who became joint managing director, in 2015 will now fill the role on a permanent basis.

It strengthens the family’s presence in key roles, following the appointment of Alex McMullen as finance director, after the retirement of John Lythgoe.

Furness-Smith joined McMullen in 1998 and spearheaded the group’s further expansion into managed pubs.
