A team of three experienced sector professionals including Luca Mathiszig-Lee, the former bar manager of pioneering gastropub the Eagle in London’s Farringdon, have opened their first pub in London and are looking to open another couple over the next few years.

Mathiszig-Lee has joined up with head chef Lee Urch, who worked alongside chef Jeremy Lee for the launch of Quo Vadis in Soho, and restaurant manager Rohit, who launched and ran the rooftop at Boundary, to open the 3 Crowns Public House and Kitchen in Shoreditch.

The pub, held on a free-of-tie lease, features a bar at the front and the restaurant separated by a grand curtain at the back. There’s an open kitchen and the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus are centred around seasonal produce.

Mathiszig-Lee, who worked at the Eagle for seven years, told M&C Report: “If all goes to plan and the right locations come up we would like to do another couple in the next two years.”

Regarding location, he said: “I think central London is ideal. Nothing new build, something that is a recognisable London space, anything from a pub to a fish and chip shop or even a laundrette.”

Expansion would be self-funded for the time being, he added.
