The French arm of brewer and pub operator Charles Wells has unveiled its new English Country Kitchen trading concept in Bordeaux.

The division, which operates ten pubs across five French cities, described the concept as a traditional tea room serving classic English dishes and desserts including afternoon tea alongside a range of British beers and ciders, all in the setting of a traditional farmhouse kitchen. French cuisine and wine have also been incorporated into the menu to add diversity.

Ed Robinson, communications and marketing manager at Charles Wells France, said: “Taking the traditional English pub experience to France has worked extremely well and so we wanted to explore how we could build on this with other trading models.

“English Country Kitchen offers great English comfort food we all love in a relaxed homely environment, from sticky toffee pudding through to a full English afternoon tea. To add real versatility to the site we have also created a great range of English beers, as well as entwining some French dishes into the menu. It is completely different to any of our other sites in France and has had a fantastic reception with locals who love its individuality.”
