A Parliamentary motion urging the government to support community pubs has now been backed by 210 MPs — making it the current session’s second-most popular Early Day Motion (EDM).
Sponsored by the all-party Save the Pub Group chairman Greg Mulholland, the EDM seeks to build on support for the Campaign for Real Ale’s Charter.
The Charter, which asked MPs to back “radical reform” of the beer tie and speak up for community pubs, local brewers and consumers, received support from 670 Parliamentary candidates — 150 of whom were elected.
Mike Benner, Camra’s chief executive, said: “The EDM calls on the government to implement a package of policies which will help secure the future of viable and well-run community pubs.”
“Getting support from a significant number of MPs from all parties will help us to put pressure on the government to follow-up on their manifesto commitments.”
