David McDowall

Stonegate CEO David McDowall will take the stage at the Pub Conference 2024 to share progress on embedding his strategic vision at Britain’s largest pub group.

The conference takes place on 26 June at The Ham Yard Hotel, London and will feature a full day of presentations and panels, including Q&As with leaders in the pub and bar sector.

McDowall has been at the helm of the 4,500 branded, operator-managed, and leased & tenanted venues, since January 2023.

In a keynote session, he will share his progress so far; how he is the embodiment of its bar-to-boardroom culture, and how the group is utilising data insights to optimise its diverse portfolio, which he describes as Stonegate’s superpower.

The leader has worked in pubs all his life, with his first job aged 18 in a Glasgow pulling pints behind the bar. His first senior management job was as group operations director at G1 Group, where he spent six years, and oversaw its £60m of managed house business.

He went on to join BrewDog, where he spent eight years in a variety of roles, including chief operating office & president, group COO, and CEO retail. David also sits on the UKHospitality board and was previously a non-executive director at NQ64.

Other conference highlights are set to include sessions from J D Wetherspoon founder and chairman Sir Tim Martin, Brasserie Bar Co’s Richard Ferrier, and Greene King CEO Nick Mackenzie. Also on the agenda, a women leaders panel hosted by Karen Bosher, hospitality consultant and ex Greene King MD, and an innovation showcase panel with The Devonshire, Buzzworks and Little Door & Co.
