A cookery charity backed by Pru Leith, Delia Smith and Lloyd Grossman has joined forces with the property group St Modwen to turn a Grade II listed hospital into a mecca for food lovers.

The British Food Trust plans a £40m scheme for the 28-acre St George's Hospital site on the outskirts of Stafford.

The main building will house a restaurant, an "Eating History" visitor attraction, a Food-in-Art gallery and an 80 to 100 room hotel.

St Modwen's other projects include restoring the West Pier in Brighton.
