Joanne Skilton, head of leasing at Battersea Power Station has told MCA there is one restaurant opportunity remaining at the first phase of the development – Circus West.

Yesterday Battersea announced the first nine tenants for the development, including Vagabond, Pedler, Allens and Flour Power City Bakery.

Skilton told MCA: “We are certainly not banning big brands but we are focussing on local, cool brands. The first nine have been announced. The riverside restaurants will be announced in the next couple of months and then we have ten railway arches that we are leasing and we have offers on all of those. We have really only got one restaurant opportunity left yet.

“We have identified sites in a number of ways – we have had teams exploring every nook and cranny of London, we have had people writing in about their favourite restaurants and we have had operators approach us.”

She said the Imbiba-backed bar concept Darwin & Wallace was a perfect example.

“Mel Marriott (managing director) had the same vision of a community pub influenced by its surroundings. If you look at their current four pubs, they are all different and very much a part of their community”, she said.

Meanwhile, Marriott told MCA the design and offer of no.29 was still being developed.

She said: “With something so prestigious and with such an unusual space there is so much to consider. We have an indicative design but that will evolve. We are not just focussing on the industrial nature of the power station but want to bring in all sorts of art deco design influences.

“We have just done a big menu refresh but that will have evolved again by the time we open Battersea in early 2017.”

The company’s next opening is in Chiswick next month. Marriott said the menu would include a rotisserie offer for the first time.
