Shares in all of the leading drinks companies fell last week but the sector remains well up on all-year lows.
Diageo fell 1% to 738p, Cadbury Schweppes by 1.28%, Bass by 0.89% to 735p and Allied Domecq by 0.77% to 419¢p. Shares in South African Breweries were down 1.46% to 507p while shares in Scottish & Newcastle fell 0.86p to 530p.
In contrast shares in leisure groups rose. Hilton Group was up 1.92% to 252 ¢ p, Rank was up 5.61p to 226p.
Shares in J D Wetherspoon were up 0.59p to 340p compared with high of 418 1/2p and low of 298 1/2p
