The Campaign for Real (CAMRA) has advertised for a new chief executive to replace Mike Benner.

Benner started work as managing director of the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) on Monday. His former role at CAMRA is being shared among members of the senior management team until a replacement can be found.

Today the group released an advert for the £75,000-a-year role to be based at the group’s headquarters in St Albans.

The chief executive will report directly to a 12-strong national executive board of directors and lead a team of senior managers with overall responsibility for a team of around 40 people. They will hold delegated responsibility from the national executive to deliver the organisation’s five-year strategy.

The ideal candidate is described as having “significant leadership experience of a similarly sized organisation”, a background in lobbying and as a spokesperson to the media and skills in developing business strategies and plans. Established relationships in the beer and pub industry are also described as desirable.

The adverts says: “The successful candidate will become the key external spokesperson for CAMRA to the industry, media, parliament and at the highest levels of government. The right person will have the gravitas and be able to influence key audiences in order to deliver CAMRA’s strategic campaigning objectives.”

The closing date for applications is Monday July 7, with interviews running through until early September.
