Hall & Woodhouse has reported sales down 0.8% for the year to 28 January.

The sales decline mirrors the fall in 2016 and leaves the group with a turnover of £107.7m for the year.

Pre-tax profits fell from £8m in the prior year to £7.1m, which the company said reflected the heavy investment during the year in its teams, pubs and brands, as well as “challenging market conditions”.

The group said the highlight of the year was the opening of the Duchess of Cornwall in Pundbury near Dorchester.

Earlier this year the group sold part of its brewery site for the development of 180 houses. IT plans to use the proceeds of the sale for further growth.

The Old Brewery building in Blandford St Mary, Dorset, was sold to the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA) – the Government’s housing delivery agency.
