Alistair Turnham, an influential adviser on nighttime economy strategies, is to open what is billed as London’s first night market offering food, drink, entertainment and retail stalls. Called the StockMKT, it will take place in Bermondsey Square on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 August, with plans for more if it proves successful. Turnham said: “Inspired by the night markets of the Far East, The StockMKT is a welcoming night market with no pretensions that will demonstrate the very best of what London has to offer. “There will be delicious edible stuff cooked up by an ever-changing roster of the capital’s most passionate and inspirational street food vendors; great drinks (alcohol and non-alcoholic), jewelry, crafts, furniture, clothing - where vintage meets contemporary; light, music and entertainment to surprise and delight.” “If our first event is a success, we plan more, both in London and beyond, so even if you can’t make it, do keep an ear out for us.” Turnham heads MAKE Associates, a high-profile constancy focusing on creating successful nighttime economies through licensing and planning regulations and other means. Turnham added: “I’ve spent the last decade advising Government, councils, police and companies on how to create better nighttime economies and town centres at a strategic level, but have been itching to do something practical alongside this which demonstrates the evening in the city can be more than just drinking.”
