RMT announces strikes on London Underground this month

The RMT has announced a fresh set of strikes on the London Underground later this month as workers dispute job cuts, pensions and working conditions.

Strike action will take place between Sunday 23 July and Friday 28 July, the trade union has confirmed. Different grades and sections of the tube are said to be affected over the period.

It is the latest escalation in a long-running dispute between the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) and Transport for London (TfL). The union said 600 jobs are scheduled to be at risk.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said, “This week of action will shut down the London Underground and show just how important the work of our members is. Plans by TfL to cut 600 jobs and attack our members pensions are simply unacceptable.

“We are aware that Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has had the TfL budget cut. However, he needs to align himself with our union and his London Underground staff in pushing back against the Tory government, exposing their damaging agenda to a key part of London transport infrastructure.”
