Little Gems Country Dining, the pub group led by entrepreneur Steve Wilkins, has acquired its third site, writes Lucy Britner.

It has purchased the Chequers Inn at Weston Turville, Buckinghamshire, for around £140,000.

The property, which is a Punch lease, currently has three letting rooms and Little Gems intends to add five more.

Wilkins said: “We are planning to close the Chequers in January for a minor refurbishment.”

The Chequers Inns will join The Howard Arms in Ilmington, Warwickshire, and The Little Swan at Milton Keynes Village - an Enterprise Inns lease - in the Little Gems stable.

The company plans to add a further three pubs to its portfolio in 2008 with the aim of running six to eight destination food-led pubs.

Wilkins previous venture Lewis & Clarke, a chain of City “gastro-bars”, was sold to Balls Brothers late last year.
