American cake house concept Hummingbird Bakery is set to open its fourth site next month after securing a unit in London’s Spitalfields. The company has taken a site on the ground floor of the Nido building, the tallest student accommodation in the world, and will sit alongside Kastner & Ovens, Tinderbox and Japanese Canteen. The group, which launched its first site in Portobello Road in early 2004, has taken a new lease on the 2,300sq ft unit at £58,500 per annum. Hummingbird, which is led by founder Tarek Malouf, currently operates a further two shops in Soho and South Kensington. The company is already seeking a fifth site in the capital and plans to open its first international franchise site next spring in the Gulf region of the Middle East. The Nido development, which is owned by private equity group Blackstone, is now fully let apart from one unit. Property advisors Shelley Sandzer and CWM acted on behalf of Blackstone. Nick Weir of Shelley Sandzer, said: “This letting to the quality Hummingbird Bakery sits well with our clients aspirations for tenant mix, we expect it to trade fantastically well.”
