Hardys & Hansons is spending £7.1m this year on redevelopments, acquisitions and new builds. A pub-restaurant is scheduled to open early September in Bradley, Huddersfield, west Yorkshire, and contracts have been exchanged on a greenfield site at Barnsley, south Yorkshire. Two other site opportunities are at the pre-contract stage.

Chairman Richard Hanson said six key managed houses would be refurbished this financial year. He regretted that the company had lost the planning appeal on a site in Northampton. Hansons has secured two contract brewing agreements with Bass and Whitbread which the company says will lead to more efficient use of the brewery. It has also renegotiated buying agreements generally.

The group announced first half pre-tax profits up from £3.98m to £4.17m on turnover up from £18.7m to £19.78m. Patrick Help has resigned as production director for "personal reasons" but he will continue to be associated with the group in a non-executive capacity and as vice-chairman.
