Environment sustainability is the key issue under discussion at tomorrow's Business In Sport and Leisure conference. The annual event – which take's place at Lord's Cricket Ground – will disuss if the government has plans to makle the sport and leisure industry greener. The industry currently conmsumes approximately £700m of energy per annum – and the prospect of further environmental legislation is never far away. A key afternoon breakout session at the BISL Conference will allow delegates to debate the sustainability credentials of the sport and leisure industry. Discussion will be led by a panel of experts including Stephen Allen (Head of Facilities, Punch Taverns), Geoff Newton (Director of Olympic Opportunity, London Development Agency), Joanna Yarrow (Beyond Green Consultants) and Charles Woollam (Director, DTZ) and chaired by Hugh Siegle. Brigid Simmonds, BISL CEO and speaker at the conference said: “The sustainability agenda has become crucial to the sport and leisure industry and it is right that it should be such a major focus for the BISL Conference. “Although energy efficiency measures will cut business expenditure, Government regulation in this area is likely to bring additional costs to the industry. I am delighted that we have been able to put together such a strong panel of expert speakers to raise awareness of the role that sustainability has to play in our sector.” The theme will also be picked up during the main plenary session of the conference. John Kelly OBE, Board Director of Business in the Community will make a keynote address in the morning on business and the environment, whilst Clive Betts MP, Vice Chair of the Communities and Local Government Select Committee, is likely to take up the issue of green property in his remarks at the conference breakfast.
