GDP is estimated to have contracted by 0.3% in the three months to October 2022, compared with the three months to July, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Monthly GDP in October in estimated to have grown by 0.5%, following a fall of 0.6% in September, affected by the additional bank holiday due to the state funeral held for HM the Queen.

The services sector, which grew by 0.6% in October after falling by 0.8% in September, was the main driver of GDP growth. Accommodation and foodservice activities saw an increase of 0.2% after falling by 0.2% in September.

Output in consumer-facing services, which includes accommodation and foodservice, grew by 1.2% in October, after falls of 1.7% in September and 1.6% in August. Overall, services fell by 0.1% in the three months to October compared with the three months to July.
