Easyinternetcafe made a total loss of £80m in 2001 and 2002, , founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou told the Financial Times this morning.

Total pre-tax losses for the business since the first internet cafe opened in 1999 are now £96m, and cumulative losses of all Haji-Ioannou's Easy-branded ventures, aside from easyJet, have risen to £120m.

Haji-Ioannou said the initial roll-out of Easyinternetcafe was "the most expensive mistake of my career" but insisted it was a viable business.

He said a radical restructuring of Easyinternetcafe's existing stores, would result in "a few million positive or negative" at the profit line, on turnover of about £10m, in 2003.
