Carlsberg, the sponsor of the FA Cup, has embarked upon a new direct marketing campaign using the competition to build a central SMS database.

The company will invite drinkers to participate in a competition to win tickets to the FA Cup Final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

The promotion will run on five million drip mats and on posters, with customers asked to enter via a Carlsberg SMS short-code.

The company previously tested SMS marketing in association with the World Cup in 2002.
