Burger King has announced an agreement to supply its UK and Ireland restaurants with 100% British and Irish beef from new supplier Kepak Group.

It follows news in February that Burger King had stopped using Silvercreast Foods after traces of horsemeat were found in some of the supplier’s products. Burger King said the Kepak facility will “undergo frequent and rigorous audits to ensure industry leading safety and quality”, in addition to the Irish Government committing to on-going inspections.

Raj Varman, senior vice-president and general manager for north west Europe at Burger King Worldwide, said: “The Burger King brand is proud to bring back 100% British and Irish beef to our restaurants. Our partnership with Kepak means that our guests can continue to have every confidence in the provenance and high quality of the locally sourced and great tasting burgers they enjoy at our restaurants.”

Ireland’s Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney, said, “Today’s announcement is confirmation of the important role Irish beef plays when it comes to global brands like Burger King. I want to thank Burger King and Kepak for their continued support for the Irish Beef industry.

“This is a very positive news story for the industry today and an endorsement of the high quality product that we are best in the world at producing.”
