The new licensing regime has caused the partnership approach between police and licences premises to break down, according to Alex Salussolia, chairman of the Association of Multiple Licensed Retailers (ALMR). Salussolia, who is also managing director of Glendola Leisure, said that since the new licensing laws have been in force police have taken a “more aggressive approach” in their dealings with licensees. He said: “Previously issues could be solved with a chat. But police are now heavy-handed and issuing closure notices to get conditions they want. The old working-together attitude seems to have gone out of the window.”
