Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council has rejected proposals for a late-night levy, due to the current economic climate and businesses’ financial difficulties.
The tax was rejected after the majority of councillors opposed the measure at a full Council meeting today. However, the council said it would look at re-consulting on the levy if the current climate changes.
Following the late-night levy consultation last year from August to November, councillors confirmed that the majority of responses received from both the licensed trade and residents opposed the levy proposal, according to licensing law firm Poppleston Allen.
