Wahaca, the Mexican fast-casual concept, is set to open its second restaurant at the beginning of November in the Westfield London development in White City.

The 3,000sq ft site, which will be located on the South Terrace of the £1.6bn centre, will have 90 covers inside and 40 covers outside.

The owners, Thomasina Miers, the 2005 winner of the BBC’s Masterchef Goes Large, and Mark Selby, who used to work with Capricorn Ventures, the majority owner of Nando’s, launched the first Wahaca restaurant at the end of July 2007 in Covent Garden.

The partners plan for the new eaterie to have a similar feel and layout to the first site and to offer the same menu, which recreates Mexican street food using locally sourced ingredients.

The new venue will also be licensed and will serve a range of Mexican beers, tequilas and flavoured waters.

The name Wahaca is based on the anglicised pronunciation of the Southern Mexican province Oaxaca.

It was recently shortlisted for the most innovative European restaurant concept by Leaders Club International, an organisation representing the foodservice industry.

Average spend per head at Covent Garden is £14.
